Are you at risk for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a serious circulatory issue in which blood vessels that carry blood to your legs become narrow or clogged. People with PAD are at significantly increased risk for stroke and heart attack. Answering the below questions will determine if you have or at risk for PAD and whether further diagnostic studies are needed to better assess your vascular health status.

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Do you experience pain, cramping, or fatigue in your foot, calf, thigh, hip or buttock while walking that goes away with rest?

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Do you have an infection, slow-healing wounds or ulcers on your legs, feet, or toes?

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Have you noticed that your feet are pale, cool, discolored, or bluish compared to the rest of your body?

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Do you have decreased hair growth or shiny skin on your legs or feet?

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Have you experienced numbness, tingling, or weakness in your legs while walking?

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Do you have a history of smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or kidney disease?

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Do you have history of a stroke or mini strokes (TIA)?

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Do you have a history of carotid stenosis or abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)?

☐ Yes   ☐ No    Have you ever had a peripheral angiogram or a vascular procedure for the legs that may have resulted in a stent?

If you answered YES to 2 or more of the above, talk to your doctor today. Early diagnosis of PAD is key. Your doctor can discuss screening options which may include an ankle-brachial index (ABI) test or an arterial duplex ultrasound.
