A Fond Farewell to Dr. Nino

We are sad to announce the passing of Dr. Alfredo Nino on February 2nd. He was an extraordinary man. He co-founded Consulting Cardiologists in 1972. He was instrumental in guiding the practice, setting the groundwork for providing the highest quality, patient-focused care, in a compassionate manner. As shared in his obituary, “It is no small coincidence that he dedicated his life to the medical specialty of the heart as his heart was so incredibly big and full of love and life.”

Alfredo F. Nino, MD

Alfredo F. Nino, M.D., 85, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Hollye Stabnick Nino, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 2, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 4, 1939, in Paris, France, he was the son of the late Josue and Marguerite Nino. He graduated from Lycee Francais Louis-Pasteur in Bogota, Colombia in 1955. He received his medical degree at National University of Colombia in 1963 and then left Colombia for the United States to complete his internship in internal medicine at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, Connecticut in 1964. He stayed in Hartford to complete his residency in internal medicine at Hartford Hospital in 1967 and then, after realizing he had an interest in cardiology, went on to complete two fellowships in cardiovascular disease at the University of Minnesota Hospital, Minnesota in 1968 and at the University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1971. Alfredo returned to Connecticut to begin his private practice in cardiology at Hartford Hospital in a group he co-founded called Consulting Cardiologist in 1972 and continued practicing with the group until 2006. His impressive career spanned 34 years in the practice he founded, during which he held a series of academic and departmental appointments in cardiology both at the University of Connecticut and Hartford Hospital as well as being part of the heart transplant team at Hartford Hospital.

Alfredo approached his life with positive energy and enthusiasm. While he worked hard and cherished his profession, family to Alfredo was everything. He enjoyed tennis, sailing, skiing out West and relaxing at the shore with family and friends. He had a love for travel which took him all over the world. He was an enthusiast of the arts, opera and classical music and often traveled to the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City to see famous operas with Hollye, his kids, and close friends. His passion for life was contagious and his laughter and smile were like no other. He had such a kind and caring demeanor and was such a dear friend to those who knew him. It is no small coincidence that he dedicated his life to the medical specialty of the heart (cardiology) as his heart was so incredibly big and full of love and life. He will be dearly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

Alfredo is survived by Hollye, his heart, soul and loving wife of 58 years, and his admiring children, Alfredo S. Nino, M.D. and his wife Georgia of Honolulu, HI, and Deanna H. Nino and her husband Jonah Goldstein of Encinitas, CA. He was a grandfather to his four grandchildren: Lance Nino, Alexa Nino, Cecil Goldstein and Elan Goldstein. Alfredo also has a large extended family of loving brothers, Orlando Nino of Milan, Italy and Walter Nino of Bogota, Colombia, brother-in laws, Richard Stabnick of West Hartford, CT and predeceased Joseph Stabnick, Jr., of West Hartford, CT, sisters-in-law, Elena Nino of Milan, Italy, Hilda Nino of Bogota, Colombia, Cheri Stabnick of West Hartford, CT and Christina Stabnick of West Hartford, CT, nieces, Juanita (Roberto) Nino Zecchino, Susana (Giuseppe) Nino Pesce, Jennifer Stabnick and Courtney Stabnick, nephews, Jaime Nino, Josue (Juliana) Nino, Joseph Stabnick, III (Anne), Andrew Stabnick (Paula) and David Stabnick (Lynn) and great nieces, Gabriella Zecchino, Elena Zecchino, Matilde Pesce, Valentina Pesce, Ilana Nino and Emily Stabnick Eiel (Jack), and great nephews, Cole Stabnick, Aidan Stabnick, Peter Stabnick, Edward “Ned” Stabnick, Matthew Stabnick, Ryan Stabnick and Harper Stabnick and dear friends.
