Good Morning Coffee Smoothie

1 serving 

This can be made ahead of time, stored in a stainless-steel travel mug in the fridge overnight and taken with you the next day! 

1 cup brewed coffee, chilled in the fridge (okay to use decaf) 

1 small ripe banana (or ½ cup frozen banana slices) 

1 tablespoon of your favorite low salt, natural nut butter (peanut butter or almond butter)

¼ regular oats (NOT steel cut) 

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract 

½ tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder 

¼ cup low fat milk or almond milk 

6-8 ice cubes 

Optional: 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed or chia seeds to increase the fiber content. 

Optional: ½ serving protein powder 

  1. In a high-power blender, add the coffee, milk, and vanilla.
  2. Next, add the banana followed by the nut butter, oats, cocoa powder.  Add in an optional ingredients next. 
  3. On top, add the ice. 
  4. Blend at high speed until smooth and creamy.  
  5. Serve in a tall glass or your favorite to-go stainless steel mug!
